Sending Light
Sending Light
My insides go chill
care for a friend
who is lit up from within
Unusual name, tawny skin,
a man who loves men
I feel curled danger
prowling scanning
send an aegis of light
protection and love
let it settle soft
guarding family,
friends, and his rare
dear self our world
begs for his glow

Deeply moving, the way 'aegis of light' functions as both ancient protection and intimate gesture. That 'curled danger' line hits hard when you've watched someone you care about navigate a world that doesn't fully see them—I had a freind in college who taught me how exhausting hypervigilance becomes. Your poem reminds me that sometimes the most powerfull act is simply witnessing someone's glow and saying 'the world begs for this.'
So nice... and I love how the lit palms of the hands in the photo look like angel wings—"an aegis of light," indeed!
