How we alter the world
How we alter the world
News brings pictures
we can’t unsee
a small brown-skinned boy,
lop-eared blue-bunny cap
his downturned mouth
Everywhere strung wires
So easy for hawks to land
spread their wings
touch two lines and fry
Once, images could change
the world the flag
on Iwo Jima—hope,
shared strength
Now, in every
living room
next brutal snapshot
and the next

It can be so overwhelming. I’ve stopped looking at TV news. I now select from online media what I want to read, in effect screening out that which is pushed out by magnates. Okay I may miss some stuff, but I’m self-regulating and I feel better at the end of the day.
Oh, yes... that last stanza hits a poignant, hard landing. Well done, Amrita.
