Feeling Its Way That river of rain a year ago fifteen inches in three days Thrilled it ended fire season Unaware it would drown Meyer lemon, two Daphne shrubs Three scent-filled winter gifts, gone their spaces bare This is how it is here, gone here, gone not choosing arrival or leaving Life feeling its way
Wonderful final stanza! Reminded of Ryokan: "Facing each of the ten universal directions, there is always and everywhere a single truth: the great teachings are One. There is nothing to be lost or attained..." "...gone here, gone here..." Not always what we consider just or fair, this is the direct truth...the way of things....
I had no intention of publishing two poems on the same day--attention error. I'm on a stiff deadline--designing, laying out, proofing a 66 page poetry book in one week for an event.
Don't like this kind of rush, but it's for Fran's event, my 96 year old poetry mentor. We have to have the books by 2-15-2026

Thanks, friend!
