(I found this word in one of my friend Daniel Skatch-Mills’ poems, and had to look it up. I was not familiar with this meaning of covert.)
covert
not sly or secret—
protected, interior
place of solace
around the cloister’s
center
free of life’s
pressing concerns
in this refuge
a full breath
flies
walks apace
and breathes some more
I didn't know this meaning of "cover" either... thanks for that! And what a nice poem emerged from it, especially that strong last stanza with those marvelous two landing lines!
Beautiful in its simplicity. Someday I might share my experience of cloistered refuge.
