Catch and…
Her long, curious nose
pointing
at the floor
my sighthound
Reading her
I peer, too
A delicate gecko
aware of the looming
goes still
With a firm grip
a pat
I lead Jazz away,
slip on a leash
grab a glass jar
a stiff card
coax the little guy in
Tap and pour
him out—he slides
into leaves
my held breath
floats free
She rescued Gecko
from risky close encounter.
Both breathe better now.
