wipes the mind what pain does emptying clarifying I didn’t say easy a heron on the hunt large feet in the muck everything attention drugs, another matter they dull and confuse chickens cackling in the yard attracting the fox that said we need chickens too
What a perfect description of that experience. When I had my spinal fusion last November, I was very happy to get off pain meds. Pain is a real, gritty practice-"I didn't say 'easy'"...What helped was focusing on what didn't hurt-not easy. Thoughtful ending-needing fox and chicken. Again, thank you, Amrita.
Thank you, Julie! I was so surprised by where this poem went--it is wholly true that poems have a life of their own. When the birds showed up, I was, "whaaaaa?"
I hope your fusion was successful, and that you aren't in pain anymore.
Thank you, Amrita. The fusion was successful and I am healing well. I go back for my first yearly post-op in 6 weeks. I love your sharing your process. Being surprised ike that is just wonderful!
Bless you for that! MRI tomorrow. Report by Friday. Steroid epidural injection October 7th, in the afternoon. My third or fourth, but the others were at L4/5. Not fun, but only for a minute. I always ask for Valium.... somehow, needles into my spine freaks me out.

What good news! I'm thrilled for you. I'm desperately trying to avoid surgery....
I hear you. Holding you in my heart as you navigate this!
