what if...
what if…
only canary daffodils
shining with spring faces
squirrels raiding seeds,
their little sly feet
worms and gophers
aerating the soil
everyday marvels
here, now
no hell or heaven
this is it
miseries, too
my son’s severe
chronic pain, friends
dying away
wars—and even worse,
deception
this can’t be denied
and yet
the world is also
otherwise
