unequal rights
 on the 19th amendment to the U.S. Constitution

every one of us
conceived by union
of male and female
birthed from the body
of a woman    yet we’re told 
as though to children,
we need an amendment
to achieve those rights
section one declaring 
equality of rights
under the law shall 
not be denied or abridged
by the United States
or by any State
on account of sex

sez who?

how can they legislate
what is already true—
we are born to survive
with the other
and given some grace,
to thrive
