trying out Substack

and a short poem for you!

Hi friends,
I’m trying out the Substack platform. It will allow me to develop writing community, which WordPress, where my blog has been for sixteen years, does not. I don’t ever intend to have a “paywall,” I want my poetry available to everyone, but I may decide put a subscribe button so people could support me if they wanted.

I also want to “get rid of” my skyeblaine.com website, and combine both on Substack. The website is expensive, and I want out from under that financial commitment.

Please let me know if there is a downside for you! And thank you for allowing me to use you as a guinea pig without asking. If I determine that this will work for me, I’ll eventually stop posting on WordPress.

refuge

I persisted,
searching, seeking
I needed refuge
like a newborn giraffe
scrambling to stand—

stillness, my air
mother silence
my milk
