silence blesses us (a pantoum)
The pantoum is a poetic form originating in 15th century Malaysia that uses repetition. It's a poem of any length composed of four-line stanzas in which the second and fourth lines of each stanza serve as the first and third lines of the next stanza. The final stanza is often two lines from the first stanza.
silence blesses us
life is not a quiet experience
the friendship of heartbeat
rushing blood in our veins
din of the blustering world
heartbeat ever the friend
it measures out the days
din of the blustering world
counterpoint, inner and outer
heartbeat measures our days
silence is found on the inside
counterpoint of outer and inner
under, beneath, and prior
turn inside for true silence
trust the big field and rest there
under, beneath, and prior
never touched nor seen nor heard
trust the big field, rest there
solace for our sick broken world
you can’t touch it but you can be it
rest in the silence that blesses
life is not a quiet experience
the rush of blood in our veins
