I held his pronouncement close to my heart for two-and-a-half years, held that vision until the day my son walked free. My sadness, that my father never got to see him do so.

Wow, Amrita! Did he walk?

Thank you, Joyce! Quite something to live through, yes.

Yes! He walked at 6.5 years of age, and still does--he's almost 52 now. I can't put the poem in the chat because it has some italics for a line of dialogue, but it will be in my collection out next spring--"Bird Rising." My dad was right!

Whoa. So much power here. Is that a photo of Bird? I love that image. He will walk. Añejo? My favorite and only alcohol. You have a good taste, Amrita! xo

Yes, that's my Bird, just around that age. (almost 52 now) I don't drink hard alcohol any more, just the occasional Black Butte Porter on a very hot day, or a glass of wine at a party. But I did like Añejo!

not only does he walk, he rides pillion on a big, burly bike!

Such a poignant pronouncement given your father's death the next day - perhaps he gave some of his own life behind for Bird to walk.
