O come, this peace
like a sun-bathing anole, 
heat-drowsed
on the stony way

	because of relentless betrayal

or come as a sparrow
preening, fluttering
playing in the bath

	because of impending aftermath

yes, come drifting in, bouquet
of night-blooming jasmine
to lull my burdened heart

	because the nation, rending us apart

Come now, you’re needed now
before it’s too late
ahead of doomsday reaching midnight

	because of desperate plight
