Amrita weaving on the dobby circa 1981
letterpress - connection
I finger the sorts
of Gill Sans the font
for this morning’s focus—
the heaviness
in my hand
familiar
a song of before
fingering the lead
I can’t yet find
ligatures, ems, ens
yet feel the lineage—
the same whisper
while weaving
forty years ago
calls me here today
You sent me down the rabbit-hole of this ‘humanist’ story of sans-serif. Fascinating!
Did you know Gill Sans became used on the deliberately simple modernist covers of Penguin Books? (Source: Wikipedia)
