Late Christmas Eve
Late Christmas Eve
Blustery
bands of heavy rain
soak the land
even our dog turned
for home
If the gusts keep up,
Christmas may be lit
by candles only
In the dark time, plants
and trees are nourished
by stores from summer
Their energy more
underground
I’m relieved when
the new year comes
Human flurry done,
we can tune to natural
rhythm, finally turn inside
