Four Lives to Go

Five Lives Down 

Emergency hospital
squirming
on thin vinyl benches
waiting
and waiting
for our dog who wolfed
raisins     
Snatched a mini-loaf
of fruitcake
from the counter
not even a crumb

Raisins, dog-deadly
It appears she’ll survive
another of her nine
lives
