in thin light

in thin light
stepping outside
the light is thin,
greens not as green
nothing as vivid
as childhood
seventy years ago

our planet, dying
due to us,
the richer nations,
with our hunger
for more
and yet more,
raping, stripping,
overusing
with no thought
for animal, plant
families lost or
seven generations
what of our great-
great grands?

no solutions here,
but to live
with great heart
spreading kindness
and love
in circles
no matter how small
