in these times to be useful, how can I serve and what is sufficient? the need, beyond vast never enough one person can do— is writing of value or need I be marching, calling, knocking on doors? every day will be different and listening is key, outward for urgency inward for how I’m called
So perfect. And expresses the place I'm in right now. Not a marcher/street protester, but am deeply concerned (I will not say afraid, because they want us to be afraid), and want to do my part. Maybe to keep talking about it is enough? We are writers. It's a powerful tool for keeping eyes open. xo
I puzzle about this question every day. I never feel that I am doing enough. But then I remember to consider what tiny part is mine to do. Doing more than my part and exhausting myself is not the answer. Yes, writing is a powerful tool, but I have this thought: poets read other poets, but how many other people do? You write wonderful essays, which I think are more widely read than poems. 💜
I don't read poets that often. But I read you. I love your small bites of daily wisdom. They bless my day, and I'm grateful. I find your poems very grounding, realistic and kind. And you speak the truth. Thank you, Amrita. xo
Thank you for restacking!
