imaginal cells

when a caterpillar
becomes goo
and then larval,
imaginal cells
come alive— 
at first, 
seen as threat,
they’re attacked

but they persist
multiply, connect
form clusters,
communicate,
birth beauty
as a butterfly

we too must
persevere, embody
a different kind 
of beauty, grow
gentler, more loving—
allow the imaginal
to come alive
no matter the threat
