Homesick
When young, I longed
for the ineffable,
a becalmed heart
yearned and searched—
Was it in this beloved?
that house
or longed-for object?
Were these worth
the effort?
Not finding peace out there
I scoured ideas, dreams
even creeds, but those
were things, too
and things no longer satisfied
One day
I noticed what was noticing
checked and checked again
it’s always here
never changing, reliable
home

Finding that home inside after searching everywhere else—it is a heavy journey, Didi. Beautifully realized.
Homesick no more, found
in heart trusty cozy nest.
Ever here, faithful.
