hidden things the workman crawled from beneath our home holding a filthy cloth bag he dusted off cobwebs and spiders—here, he said, from the farthest corner the bag had startling weight inside, seven pocket watches and many silver dollars some older than 100 years was this forgotten did sudden death prevent its retrieval?
Yes, a story, for sure. (More than one!) Why would anyone have so many watches? Hmmm. If the found silver was minted in Carson City (especially in 1889) you've got more than a story. Don't succumb to cleaning them up. Tarnish is authentic.
These were found 13 years ago, when we purchased and renovated this home. We gave part to the man who found it--he deserved a reward for being honest! My husband took the silver dollars to a coin guy to get them appraised. Nothing earthshaking.
What a treasure... what a story must be contained in that bag! Thanks for the poem and the image that will stay with me!
And we will never know the story, so we get to invent one!

Gosh what a hidden treasure! Meant just for you it seems.
Apparently!
Intriguing! So many questions. Can’t wait for the next instalment.
This occurred 13 years ago. No next installment! No answers--the previous owners had died by the time we purchased the home.
