Each Morning after Amy Schmidt It’s impossible to be lonely with homemade mocha at hand tangy burst of caffeine mellowed by round teaspoon of chocolate— comforting wee taste of sweetness blue mug keeps it toasty for hours Coffee’s warmth soothes my insides the bite wakes me up Best writing companion of all
I'm sorry I haven't been commenting much. I read them every day. It's been really hectic out my way. Running 3 stacks is a big job! Come to a slam...next one is on May 16th. 2pm PT. xo
A slam, traditionally, is a poetry or storytelling competition, a contest. I set my that way, because it's what I knew. But after the first one, I realized that I had to take competition out of the format. It's not feminist, fair, or generous. I'm not into pitting people against each other. I do them once a month, and we record them, and there's a video replay we share with everyone. If you take a look at the Wham! Bam! site, you'll see more about it. xo
Thanks, and I love that you took the competition out of it. I don't know how you manage three stacks! In my own life, I am managing three fields of activity: poem a day, painting almost every day, making bread for our family. Oh yes, the fourth--all my PT exercises to keep my body afloat!! It's a full life.
It's a lot, and do a lot. I finally identified the things I love to do and am doing them. I'm living a full, happy life for the first time ever. I wouldn't step away from that. I have taken a break from writing my essays, but I have to get back to it, because it gives me comfort and self-awareness. I miss the exploration on the page. Though, goodness knows, I'm doing a lot of exploring off the page! xo
So many delicious ways not to be lonely :)
A mocha will always be one of the most comforting drinks in the world!
Love this. the drawing and the poem. And, I don't even need the chocolate! xo
Very kind of you! Thanks!

I do love your comments, I'll admit. I don't think I can make May 16th. A very busy day. Nan, what is a slam exactly? Forgive my ignorance....

Love your illustration, as well as the poem!
Thanks, Jan! That was an early one. Hope my drawing/painting is improving....
