dead
when I see something
dead in the road,
prayer
falls from my lips
if it’s small, squirrel
or skunk, I bless
hope it didn’t suffer
and drive on by
if large, I’ll stop,
drag it off
the pavement
as I pray
no one deserves
that end—run over
again, again
best it’s resting
in the weeds or dirt
can return, in time,
to earth
Yes. I don't drag animals to the side of the road but I do say a little grief prayer. It's a heartbreaking thing to see. xo
And I feel so responsible, even if I personally didn't kill it....
