Communion for Boudewijn on our thirty-eighth wedding anniversary You walked the path toward me long and lean closer, beautiful friendly smile lines Who is this man? An old friend my heart said but for sure we’d never met I say you swept me into a hug You say I leapt into your arms either way thirty-eight years a long time Those crinkles lured me into deep communion
I never take him or our delightful connection for granted. We just get along so darn well. We don’t fight and only occasionally disagree. It feels to me as though you might have had that blessing with Arthur, too, although I really have no idea.
Thank you, Julie! Our aniversary was actually May 7th, but I've been filling in some poems while dealing with brutal back pain. (I am under a pain-specialist's care.) Nonetheless, I try to share that love every day. The good news is that my sense of humor is intact.
Thank you! Our anniversary was actually May 7th (38 years!) but I'm filling in poems while I deal with this vicious back pain. The good luck is that it's at its worst while standing or walking, and I'm pretty comfortable sitting at my computer. I have written two new poems in the past two days--one is the final poem that I had to write to complete my collection, Bird Rising, which is due at the publisher by the end of August. I hope to send everything in tomorrow--my husband is proofing it.
May I send you my (prose) memoir? Now that yours is done and coming out (I can't wait to read it!), I thought you might find it interesting, and you will learn far more about your old friend here. It did win two first prizes, so some people have found it worthy even though I self-published it.
Thank you, Jan. Our anniversary was actually May 7th--I've been filling in while dealing with this savage back pain. I'm on A LOT of pain medication, and still.... but do have a fine pain doctor. We're working to figure this out.
Didi, happy 38th anniversary to you both! That sweet argument about who hugged whom first made me smile. Those friendly smile lines really did open up a whole lifetime of deep communion. ❤️
They sure did. Boudewijn (Dutch born, came to the USA at age 33) has been my dear husband and companion for 38 years. He is taking such good care of me during this severe back episode. I can't drive, which adds a lot more to his life. All I can say is bless him!!
Wonderful!
Thank you, Gilly!
So wonderful to share that love
even for a day
38 years
Big Gift

Beautiful poem and may your love continue to bless you and those with whom you share that love.

I love the rewrite of your poem--good job! You are so darn FUN to work with!
My overalls came; oh my God, they are wild. I will take a picture of me in them for you when I figure out what goes with them.

Didi, he sounds like such a good companion, especially now. I hope your back eases soon and you get plenty of rest. ❤️
