Close to the Bone
We are living
close to the bone
amid collective heartbreak
I stopped watching news
yet stepping outside
I notice what’s off
the weather
water
kindness
cooperation
my heart hurts
for me
and those I hold close
for all of us,
microbes included
we broke us
we must fix us
our atoms are
billions of years old
we are the universe
in human form
I think about that
This feels painfully close to the bone, Didi. “we broke us / we must fix us” stays with me. I love how you bring us back from the enormous scale of atoms and the universe to the ordinary things we can still notice—weather, water, kindness, cooperation. ❤️
