Another Day
Another Day
showing at the skyline
slate dawn, somber world
shading me gray
A mistaken glance
at the headlines torn
between need-to-know
and stupefaction they’re
assaulting what-where-who
in our cities, our states
yet there is no they
Only we—selling
ourselves betraying
Time to invite my dog
for a sniffwalk
I follow her nose—
pungent pavement
basks in her finehewn
attention
then she moves on
this clump that tree
she snaps at a bee
I’m grateful
she misses

So many great phrases here: "sniffwalk," "pungent pavement" and "finehewn attention"... excellent wordplay!
